Love Him or Not, Michael Savage is Here to Stay.
Few names in the American media conjure up as many passionate feelings as Michael Savage. The Brooklyn born physician, talk show host and author has a tongue like a razor and isn't afraid to use it. “Twenty-nine percent of all inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens. No, Mr. Bush, they do not all come here to work, they do not all come here to work. They come here to work the system, sell drugs, rape, and kill on contract. Don't lie to us” he once challenged. Broadcasting out of San Francisco of all places, Dr. Savage is the right wing's most controversial of all broadcasters and he makes absolutely no apologies for it.
Carried in over 400 markets and online at thesavagemichael.com, Dr. Savage's show, The Savage Nation, tackles topics that are as diverse as they are provocative and has earned its spot as the third highest rated syndicated radio talk show in the US. In a single show, listeners may educated on Dr. Savage's theory that 99% of autistic children are simply “brats that have never been told to cut it out” to his belief in the possibility that Barack Obama's presidency may have been usurped by a foreign power.
Dr. Savage, aka Michael Alan Weiner has inspired as many protesters as he has fans. In an unprecedented turn of events, Dr. Savage was notified that he was no longer permitted to enter the United Kingdom. Named alongside such radicals as Yunis al-Astal, a radical anti-Western Islamic cleric and Hamas member in the Gaza Strip, Mike Guzovsky, an Israeli Jewish extremist said to be involved in militant training camps, Dr. Savage was banned from entry into Britain because his remarks classified him as an “agent of extremism and intolerance” according to the British government.
As expected, Dr. Savage did not take the insult lying down. Instead, he responded by penning his best selling book, “Banned in Britain” in which he in great detail explains the injustice of the ban and his take on why his words and actions are valid. In addition, Dr. Savage aggressively criticized fellow conservative talk show hosts for not coming to his defense. In all fairness, it is somewhat understandable why many of the targets of his anger backed away. Referring to competitor Sean Hannity as the “Wall Banger” and labeling Rush Limbaugh “The Fraud” Michael Savage has not earned many friends in the world of talk radio.
The only thing that compares to his controversial nature is his exceptional talent and brilliance in cutting through the political correctness that has plagued this nation for far too long. He is one of the few subjects in the public eye that says what he means and means what he says. He bows to none and that is a trademark that has earned the loyalty of millions of listeners world wide. Regardless of whether or not you agree with his politics, the man is a mast orator who is as passionate about your right to disagree with him as he is about his right to say what he thinks.
Love him or hate him, Michael Savage has earned his place in the culture of American talk radio. His method of madness and style are unique to any other commentator and it doesn't look like he will be going anywhere soon. Like he says, if you don't like what he is saying, turn the channel....But just like millions of other fans in the US and around the world, I think I will keep listening as long as Dr. Savage has something to say.
